3 Tips for Anyone Building a New Construction Home
With the current state of the real estate markets, many home-seekers are opting to build rather than buy an existing home. There are several reasons people are deciding to build a new home—they don’t want to go through bidding wars, or have to worry about updating an older home.
If you are one of those choosing to build a brand-new home, here are some things to keep in mind:
1. Get on the same page.
If you are married, make sure you are on the same page as your spouse. The last thing you want to do is to get into the design center and have totally different ideas about budgets, design, etc. That will lead to a dreadful process for all parties involved. So talk about what you both want and expect, and get on the same page before you start building—and definitely before you go to the design center!
2. Use Pinterest or Houzz.
These are great websites to use to go through and figure out what you like. You can look at examples and save them to your boards to show the design center rep what you like. That way they can help guide you through the design process so that you can end up with a design you like. Of course, it’s good to keep in mind that Pinterest is Pinterest and the design center is the design center, and what you dream about on Pinterest may be something the design center can’t quite replicate. Same applies for Houzz.
3. Use a realtor.
Even when you’re buying from a builder, it’s good to be represented by a realtor. They can help you go through the contract and make sure everything goes smoothly throughout the entire process. Many people don’t realize that you can use a realtor when you buy new construction, but you can—and that way you don’t have to go through the process alone!
