5 Spring Cleaning Tips

It’s time to start talking about spring cleaning!

By now hopefully, all your Christmas and holiday decorations are put away. It’s time to start getting ready for spring, and for a lot of us, that means spring cleaning. This is a good thing for some because some people like to declutter and have a fresh start to a new season. It’s a headache for others who don’t even want to think about doing spring cleaning!

Whichever you are, here are 5 areas of your home that you should pay attention to when you do your spring cleaning, and some tips for dealing with them.

1. The garage

Are your cars parked in the driveway because you can’t park them in the garage? We understand that! This is a good time to go into that garage and see what you can get rid of. Maybe it’s time for a garage sale. We’re coming up on storm season, so it’s a good idea to clear out the garage to fit our cars in to protect them from hail.

 2. Your closet

Many of us have more clothes than we know what to do with! Now is a good time to look at some of the clothes you haven’t worn in a couple of years, and donate them! Or add those into your garage sale. You’ll be amazed at how much space you can clear out when you go through your closet and toss out any clothes and shoes that you don’t actually wear! If you haven’t worn it in a year or more, toss it!

 3. Pantry/refrigerator

Most people don’t think about these areas when they think about spring cleaning. How often do you go in there and purge those old sauces and condiments? Look through your pantry. Just like with your clothes, if you haven’t used it in forever (especially if it’s expired), toss it! This is also the perfect time for you to organize your pantry. If you have kids you can organize some snack areas for them—having special areas for the kids can help keep your overall pantry neater. Then with a clean, organized starting point, you can maintain it that way. Go through your fridge and pantry and throw out all that old stuff!

 4. The attic

This is one of the areas of our homes we pay attention to the least. We put our Christmas decorations up there, and all kinds of junk. Get up there and see what you can get rid of! (Or see if you can clear out space so that you have room to put things from the garage up there.)

 5. The backyard

The backyard is an easy dumping ground, and we don’t always pay attention to what we’re accumulating back there. Old toys that the kids haven’t played with in a while can be donated. Maybe you have old patio furniture back there that you don’t use anymore—more items for your garage sale!

As you’re going through these areas of your home, if you see anything on the exterior or interior that needs a touch-up of paint, or if you look around and realize that you want to update your kitchen altogether, now is a good time to that! That’s where we can come in. We can help you with a bathroom or kitchen remodel, or update the paint whether interior or exterior.

Take a look at these five areas of your home and take the opportunity to have a clean, fresh start to your spring! And then give us a call if we can help you with anything!
