3 Halloween Tips for Your Home

This year is just flying by. It’s already October! Halloween is just around the corner, so we wanted to give you some fun tips to help you have a great Halloween.

1. Leave the light off.

The first thing you need to do is decide whether or not you’re giving out candy. If you’re not going to hand out candy, remember to turn off any porch lights. If you have lights that come on automatically, you probably want to turn those timers off for Halloween night. The porch light is your indicator—if you have the light on, people will ring your doorbell all night long!

2. Or, leave the light on.

And of course, if you are going to hand out candy, make sure your porch light is on! Nowadays people often sit outside in front of the house, so that trick or treaters don’t even have to come up to the door. This can be a fun social time for the adults in the neighborhood.

Don’t forget to make sure you get plenty of candy! Many people run out of candy. If Halloween is a fun event for you and your family, you don’t want to be the house that runs out of candy early!

3. Remember your pets.

Halloween can be a traumatic night for dogs and cats. The doorbell keeps ringing, there’s chaos, unfamiliar people keep coming up to your house, etc. If you are going to pass out candy you may want to sit out front of your home so that you can avoid having the doorbell ring and the door opening and closing. If you don’t hand out candy and you stay home with your porch lights off, you might want to take the extra step of putting a note on your door asking people to please not ring your doorbell because it will upset the dogs inside. Most people understand this and will leave you be. We want this to be a fun event for the whole family, including your furry friends!

We hope you and your family have a happy Halloween!
