Safety Tips to Consider During Christmas Time
We’re right in the middle of the holiday season. It’s a busy time of year. And it’s a wonderful time of year! Unfortunately, it’s also a time when crime peaks. We have three Christmas season safety tips for you, to help keep you safe this season.
1. Install Door Cameras.
Consider installing a Ring doorbell or some kind of video camera that can see your front door. Online Christmas shopping is more popular than ever, with Amazon Prime, etc. If you are getting a lot of deliveries throughout the season, you might run into trouble with thieves taking these boxes right off your doorstep. Installing a camera can be a deterrent, but it can also help to catch a thief by letting you ID anyone who is taking your packages. Think about installing one of these this season!
2. Watch your outlets.
Whenever you put up your Christmas lights and decor, make sure you’re not overloading your outlets. You’ve probably all seen Christmas Vacation, where the outlet is overloaded and the sparks fly! This is a fire hazard, so you want to make sure you’re staying on the safe side with your outlets.
3. Make it look like you’re home.
If you are going to be leaving your home to go visit family, make sure you let your neighbors know, so they can keep an eye on things. You can have them pick up your mail or you can ask the post office to stop delivering your mail while you’re out of town, so it doesn’t pile up in your mailbox and signal to thieves that nobody’s home. If you get a newspaper, have someone pick that up too. You might also consider investing in some smart lighting that you can use to turn lights on and off during the day to make it look like someone’s home.
Unfortunately, crime is just part of the reality of the season. We want you to stay safe! We hope you have a wonderful Christmas season. And if you need any updates on your home before your Christmas company comes—maybe a kitchen remodel, or some updated paint—we’d love to help you out!
