This is something that you cannot just hire someone for on a whim. You actually have to trust in them, and know that they are going to get the job done. Make sure to ask these 10 questions to the contractor you’re thinking of hiring.

Do You Have a License?

You always want to ensure that the contractor that you hire has a license. You also want to ensure that the license is valid with the state, and that they are covered to do the work in your home. Anyone can say that they are licensed, but making them show you a copy of it or checking with the local offices to ensure that they have a valid one is the best way to go about it.

Do You Have General Liability Insurance?

Insurance is awesome to have, for anyone involved, but you want to ensure that the company and contractor is able to cover all of their bases when doing any type of work in your home. Once again, make them prove that they have this insurance and check on it since anyone can say that they are. If something happens, and they are not covered with liability insurance, you will have to pay for the damages out of your own pocket, check with your homeowners insurance to see if they will cover it and might not or sue the contractor which can be costly.

Can You Guarantee Your Work?

Many times, companies can guarantee their work, and when you work with them, you want to ensure that this is something that they can do. If they do not provide some sort of guarantee, or state that they would not come back to fix it then this is not a company that you want to work with. You want this guarantee, and you want it in writing when it comes to hiring them for the job. If they mess something up, or it doesn’t work, then you need them to replace or repair it.

Do You Have Worker’s Comp Insurance?

This is very important insurance to have in their case. This is what is going to protect them while they are working on the many things throughout your home. If the contractor does not have this insurance, and is hurt while working on your home then you’re liable for any damages and medical bills that occur because of this accident. Make sure to check, and verify that they have this and not just take their word for it.

Can You Provide References to Me in Writing?

You do not want to enter into a blind relationship with someone, so making sure that you have written references from them, that you can contact is always a good thing. You want to know how they felt about the work that was done, and how they felt about everything. Make sure to call and check with these references given.
