You want to have the contractor or any high level foreman in charge for the process at all times, especially if sub-contractors are being used for it. Many well-known contractors are affiliated with many organizations that promote the well being of the work that they do. The BBB is one organization that you can check to find out how they are ranked with the work and business that they provide. NAHB provides you with a list of reputable contractors that do this type of work. NARI is also a great one for any remodeling projects.

Know How They Perform Their Work

You want to know their hours, what they need, if you need to be there or out of the way, how everything is cleaned up in the end and whether or not they will work straight through a project. You should always make sure the items in your home are protected during the process, but also that they are going to clean up after themselves and be respectful of all the items in your home.

You could also ask how many projects, like yours, the contractor has completed in the last year.
